Tags: Congress, illegal immigration, immigration, Ron PaulRon Paul’s (R) recent statements/positions on illegal immigration and immigrants, followed by his voting record as a Congressman. Is he the "Hope for America"?
Positions:
- No amnesty, but impractical to round up 12 million illegals. (Sep 2007)
- Immigration problem is consequence of welfare state. (Sep 2007)
- No amnesty, but border fence isn’t so important. (Jun 2007)
- We subsidize illegal immigration, so we get more. (Jun 2007)
- Keep rule barring immigrants from running for president. (May 2007)
Votes:
- Voted YES on building a fence along the Mexican border. (Sep 2006)
- Voted YES on preventing tipping off Mexicans about Minuteman Project. (Jun 2006)
- Voted YES on reporting illegal aliens who receive hospital treatment. (May 2004)
- Voted YES on extending Immigrant Residency rules. (May 2001)
- Voted YES on more immigrant visas for skilled workers. (Sep 1998)
- Rated 100% by FAIR, indicating a voting record restricting immigration. (Dec 2003)
For those unfamiliar with the Minuteman Project - Voting YES on the amendment supported the Minuteman Project, a group of volunteers who have taken on surveillance of the Mexican border for illegal immigrants. The amendment states that US funds will not be used to tell the Mexican government about the whereabouts of the Minuteman Project volunteers. Proponents of the Minuteman Project say that they are volunteer citizens doing what the federal government SHOULD be doing, but has failed to do.

Yes he is … too many politicos .. piecemeal the issues and ignorantly do not take a long view. Ron Paul’s immigration policy, is tied in with his foreign policy, his monetary policy and his civil rights policy.
His foreign policy heads off disaster on our economic olicy, his economic policy makes our country proserporous, This prosperity means the demand for labor to provide services. This labor COMES FROM IMMIGRANTS who legally come here to work. Since dead for labor is great, immigration is seen as a blessing not as a hindrance.
Illegal immigration is a symptom of a larger problem and not a problem in and of itself.
Ron Paul has explained this before in the debates but the politics seem to ignore it becuase it involves more then one moving piece.

Good points, and it is important for candidates to have their policies “tie together” weaving in/out to firm up resolution to issues faster, with solidity and stability.
[It is assumed a typo in the sentence "Since dead for labor is great" should read "Since demand for labor is great".]
There are no reasons for anyone to hold prejudice against those pursuing legal immigration. There is reason to hold elected officials accountable to provide solutions to the processes which need to be fixed. A poor and slow process in this case breeds/encourages other avenues not sponsored which in turn leads to illegal activities to gain immigration.
