Though the election is more than four months away, the campaigns of Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain aka McSame are shaping their strategies for dealing with racially tinged messages.

“The Texas Republican Party recently cut ties with a vendor whose political buttons at a party convention included one saying: ‘If Obama is president … will we still call it The White House?’ Texas GOP spokesman Hans Klingler said, ‘we will neither tolerate nor profit from bigotry.’”

That was, of course, in bad taste and completely inappropriate. But anyone who makes a remark like that is either intentionally, or out of ignorance, addressing only half of the question.
The query no one has brought to bear — and the one that should be truly impactful — is this: ‘If Obama is elected President… will he and his wife Michelle, still call it the White House?’
