Another Democrat (Obama Supporter) Gone Afoul

Puerto Rican Gov. (Anibal Acevedo Vila) and 12 associates face criminal charges related to the financing of three of Acevedo’s campaigns, according to a federal indictment unsealed Thursday.

According to CNN news, Acevedo, 48, faces 19 counts, including conspiracy, making false statements and wire fraud. He has been governor — the island’s top official — since 2005. Acevedo and his associates also are accused of defrauding the Puerto Rican treasury of $7 million "by fraudulently pledging to abide by a voluntary public funding law".

Acevedo has endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for president and is a superdelegate for the Democratic candidate. However, if Acevedo were detained, he wouldn’t be able to attend the Democratic National Convention in August in Denver, CO.

Makes you wonder if the foul associations (remember the Rezko (and other) incidents?) influences the central figure to navigate in the gray areas of the law. Hmm. How many other skeletons are in the closet of this candidate?
